…a funny thing happened on the way to the bar
Thought it might be fun to write about how to get started on chickens.
So…you are thinking of starting chickens, but don’t know where to start…
First thing is to check to see if you can have chickens where you live. Many cities are getting better about letting you have backyard chickens. It’s easy to do a google search for your town and “chicken ordinances.” There may be limits on the number of chickens you can have, and there is likely a ban on roosters.
So make sure you are allowed to have chickens before you get too far into this endeavor. I’m outside of town, so I can have as many chickens as I want.
You may also want to check your state law, especially if you are interested in selling your eggs. In Kansas, you can have up to 50 chickens before you have a license to sell eggs direct to the consumer.
It’s okay if you don’t know how many you want to get. Start small and buy more as you get think you get more experience.
