Beekeeping at Night

After swearing off beekeeping at night, we once again did it. We bought two new hives, which we had to pick up at twilight, so it was dark by the time we got home.

Wes was fantastic – we were out of town when the bees came in, so he put them in brooder boxes for us. They were already heavy when we brought them home. The current theory on why we lost the hive was starvation. Much like Katniss, they went hungry in the spring. Sadly, the dandelions weren’t up yet.

But we have the wildflower field up and running now, so I’m optimistic.

We should have some honey this year, so Yay! We have all of the wax from the lost hive, but I haven’t done anything with it yet. Probably tapers and lip balm.
