Baby Boom

So we had the list of goats – let’s dig a little deeper. We have a billy (and had another up until a few months ago). Where there are billies, there are babies. It’s a baby boom all up in here.

Six. Luckily, they’ve kindly spaced themselves out. Violet first, then Oreo and Clover thirty days later, then Iris thirty days after that. Cookie, thankfully is not currently pregnant. She’s pretty smol.

So Violet has twins – and is due *checks watch* any moment now. From Christmas to January 8. I am so anxious. I have my crazy OCD birthing kit in a gigantic tote – more on that soon.

I made a packing list for the tote and wrote a procedure for a normal birth (but I have the number for the emergency line at the vet in my favorites and in 24 font on each document).

We set up a camera in the goat shed so that we can see what’s going on. However, Violet steadfastly refuses to follow directions, and is not hanging out in our old goat shed.

She (and her sisters) seem to like the new shed though.

So Violet is the first to go.

Approximately one month later, we have Oreo and Clover ready to go. This is Clover’s first kid. Oreo had Niblet last year, so she’s old hat at this. They are due somewhere around the end of January. Each is carrying (as far as the Vet could tell) one kid.

Finally, we have our last set of twins with Iris, who is due at the end of February. She’s still struggling with her leg – but we’re going to try a few more things. I hate to see her in pain, but we are trying to help.

Cookie was not pregnant as of November, for which we are thankful. She’s so tiny. She’s maybe a year old now, but still our littlest goat.

And the cause of it all.

Someone wants cookies.

Clover wants to wish all of you an amazing 2024.
