Starting Over
So this latest cold snap took our last hive. So we have an opportunity to start over and plan how we set up our bee yard knowing what we know now.
We are going to get two more packages of bees in April. Before that, we need to do a few things.
1. I want to clear out the space and put gravel or mulch under the hives, like this. (Image from Perfect Bee)
2. I also want more shelter from the cold. Maybe build a structure like this.
Instead of the trellises on the sides, I can do oilcloth windbreaks. Also, I don’t need such a fancy base, or fencing. We shall see where we end up.
3. The Husband is going to build scales, so that we can know when to harvest.
