…a funny thing happened on the way to the bar
Every year that I need to make a halloween treat, I go with the easy peasy eyeball sugar cookies. I love me some sugar cookies, but I’m very picky. They must be the correct sugar cookies. The correct sugar cookies are from the 1973 Junior League of Wichita Sunflower Sampler.
My copy came from my grandmother, Mom Mom. Complete with holy cards – including JFK, because her maiden name was Connor.
Powdered Sugar Cookies (online as Mary’s Sugar Cookies)
Mix sugar and butter. Add egg and flavoring and mix thoroughly. Add flour and other dry ingredients.
Refrigerate for 2 hours, or freeze for one if you’re antsy. Roll out on floured board and cut with a cutter.Preheat the oven to 375. Bake 7 to 8 minutes. I generally put the first sheet on the lower rack, then fill the second sheet and put on the top rack.
Then I start the 8 minutes. Let cool and frost or put sprinkles on top.
Tip that I use – if you like funny shapes like round (and I generally do).
Get out three sheets of parchment paper. Separate into three balls.
Roll em up in the parchment, and shape.
Put your little cookie dough burritos in the fridge or freezer.
Then slice, rolling the dough as you go so that there isn’t a flat side.
Then let them cool and wrap them up overnight. Frost tomorrow.
It makes about 6 dozen cookies.
