Archaeology Camp 2023

We love Archaeology Camp. it is a program with the Kansas Historical Society and the Kansas Anthropological Association . It’s actually called the Kansas Archaeology Training Program Field School.

This year it was in Lake Scott State Park.

Since I’m a wimp about heat (I also get alarmingly red and freak people out), I signed us up for field work in the morning and lab work in the afternoon.

But as will things, it is an adventure. The day we were to leave there was some maintenance on the car that needed to be done.

…and it resulted in the car being undriveable. So we rented a car. Behold, the last rental car in the town… even bigger blue!

The drive was spent coming up with stupid names for the rental car. Big Blue 2: Electric Bluegaloo, 2Big2Blue, the monstrosity.

We got to western Kansas and there was a n amazing light show all around us. Until it was terrifying.

We got to our hotel and collapsed. It is eerie wandering in to the TV being on.

I half expected Keeley Jones to expound in the fun of Karaoke.

The first day we were in a hole that was almost done. We didn’t find a whole lot, but we got to see some cool things in the lab.

The next day we got to start a new hole.

It was cool getting it started, and we found lots of artifacts!

The lab was awesome too!

All in all, a good time. Hope we can do it next year, too!
