Flower Pressing Party

My friend worked with Garden Gallery KC to host a Flower Pressing party. I had started to press flowers last summer during a trip to Colorado, but had very limited luck. When my friend mentioned that she was hosting a party to learn how, I was in.

It was just lovely. Garden Gallery KC thought of everything. When we arrived, we each had a space with flowers, a flower press, clippers, tweezers, a picture frame and a template (there was even a feedback form on the back of the template – great idea!).

The first craft was to press our flowers. We started at the bottom with the thickest flowers – the rose. We pulled out the middle, then spread out the rest of the petals.

The press is like a sandwich – the boards at the top and bottom are like the bread, and the blotting paper, flowers, and cardboard are the fixings.

You start with blotter paper, then flower, then blotter paper, then cardboard.

Next was the mum. This one we cut down the middle, and flattened. The darker mums we placed upside down.

Next were the smaller flowers. I added some rose leaves and loose petals to round out the flower press. I had a few left over, so our sweet host offered us antique books to press more.

We put our presses back together and moved on to our next project. This one is a floating glass flower frame. We went to the kitchen and picked out flowers that the company dried, so we could go home with a finished project.

We picked our flowers, and arranged them on our templates, then transferred them to our frames, tacked them on with a little mod podge, and put it all back together again.

I think it turned out very well. We had a great little group and it was a lot of fun.
